📖 Plot Summary:
Stranded on the rainy island of Pago Pago due to a quarantine, prostitute Sadie Thompson finds herself sharing space with a group of pious missionaries led by the stern and self-righteous Alfred Davidson. While Sadie brings life and defiance to the oppressive atmosphere of the island, Davidson sets out to reform her, convinced that her soul can be saved.

As the relentless rain beats down and tensions rise, Davidson’s obsession with Sadie becomes increasingly unsettling. What begins as a mission of salvation devolves into a psychological power struggle that exposes hypocrisy, sexual repression, and moral conflict.

Joan Crawford delivers one of her most provocative performances, portraying Sadie with raw sensuality, desperation, and humanity. The film ends on a shocking note that defied the moral codes of its time — typical of the pre-Code Hollywood era.
